Welcome to RenegadeC's Booth!

This booth is completely focused on "The Ascension of Vigil".

What is it?

The Ascension Of Vigil is a 3D Side Scrolling Beat 'em Up / Platformer / Fighting game all mixed together, it has many cool features such as:

- Fully standalone, Quake is not required! This game extracts into it's own directory; simply just download and play
- Fully graphical 2D menus completely written with QuakeC
- An intelligent camera that tracks the action dynamically complete with zooming features

- Takes advantage of the Darkplaces engine for high resolution textures, and high quality stereo sound
- Grab enemies upclose and beat them personally

- Smack your dead opponents around in mid-air
- Wall Grabbing similar to the Ninja Gaiden series
- RPG traits such as a leveling up / experience system
- Blocking & countering, block an enemy attack then deliver your own in return
- Combo Counter, the game tracks how many hits you've successfully performed in a row! larger combos equals a larger high score
- Evasive maneuvers, double jumping in midair to avoid enemy attacks and recovering from a fall with a backflip
- The main hero's appearance changes over time and becomes more powerful
- Vigil is able to run!
- A magic system rarely seen, featuring 5 devastating and useful spells and is similar to Guardian Heroes system for easy access and casting
- Air combos! A feature never done before in a Quake mod, and on ground combos are included as well .. they're flashy similar to XBox Ninja Gaiden
- 10 enemies, knights, dogs, barons, skeletons, horrors, gaunts, hell knights, arch ghouls, wraiths, electric squids, plus more enemies are being added constantly
- Screen filling special effects and supported transparencies
- A few levels to play around in, more are underway
- Has it's own unique gameplay; fast, skillful and furious
- Story is explained inside the game (leave the title screen waiting until the music is finished playing)
- Use the enviroment around you, grab ledges and hoist Vigil up similar to Prince of Persia or perhaps grab a wall and jump kick through enemies
- Completely redone hit detection system, the Quake engines wasn't good enough so a new one has been written with help from Sajt & LordHavoc
- Enemy AI has been written from scratch and they are very smart with support for different enemy behaviors; each enemy has their own strengths and weaknesses!
- Optimized loading times! This mod is Dreamcast supported and is very friendly towards it

I wanna see it!

1. Vigil is running, about to fight some dogs

2. Vigil is hanging from a ledge

3. Vigil successfully blocked a magic attack with his sword

4. Vigil casts Fire Beam

5. An enemy is toasted by Vigil "Flaming Head Smash" attack

6. Title Screen

7. A Skeleton and Gaunt meet their demise!

8. A Knight is blown away by Vigil's Fire Column attack

Screenshots do not show The Ascension of Vigil in its full glory, it's a lot better to see it in action as it contains a lot of special effects and unique hand done animation and moves very quickly and fluidly too.

Is it finished?

Sadly no. The main aspect that this game is missing is levels, there are 3 levels so far: Castle, Dungeon, and Wilderness however none of these levels actually connect to each other! There is a simple work-around for this though, bring down the console with the ~ button, and type "changelevel "; where is you would either put "castle", "dungeon", or "map01" without quotes and press enter. Do not change levels with "map" unless you want to reset your stats; meaning you'd lose all your armor and you'd be reset back down to level 1.

Oooo, am I able to play it?

Yes, I'm designing TAoV as a free download for every version which comes out! This allows everyone to beta test it and give feed back on what can be improved or whatever new features should be added; as well as allowing anyone to see how changes and developments can change a game in development! Quite the learning experience.

The Ascension of Vigil is happily compressed with Winrar!

Is there a special moves list?

Press F1 inside the game and credits / move list / magic information will pop up (press left / right to scroll through it), it will not only show you how to execute the move, but it's name and even a picture of it!

I have an idea/suggestion/feature I'd like to see implemented, how can I contact you?

There's two very simple ways you can contact me, you can either email me directly or sign up at the QuakeDev forums located at Dreamcast Emulation and post anything you wish in "The Ascension of Vigil" topic, which is already expanded up to 21 pages and over 17,000 views and contains a plethora of information. :)

Who made it?

All the coding, most of the graphics, a few sounds, the animation for Vigil was done by Jeremy 'Tyne/RenegadeC' Sneep.

RPG for mapping, fantastic art, and inputs on making the gameplay overall better !

DCMad, RPG, Bl1tz, LordHavoc, and I have also made a few maps or are currently developing maps at this time

Music was done by the overly talented Bl1tz!

I must also thank (again) LordHavoc, MauveBib, Harb for testing and helping me when I got stuck on coding something

and ofcourse thanks to all the #QC, #Terrafusion, #Darkplaces residents. :)

This booth needs a babe! All I see is some dude up top

That's Vigil, and as for a booth babe here she is!

Thanks Randy!
